Police Mobile Video Surveillance

Utilizing Zao products for live streaming video allows law enforcement personnel and commanding officers to share and monitor real time events as they unfold live in the field. Soliton’s range of mobile ONVIF compliant products allows encrypted live streaming from a range of action cams or mobile cameras, over multiple bonded 4G connections, Wifi or satellite, for viewing back at the command and control center, or shared amongst colleagues within the field,  with ultra-low latency.

Why The Police should use Mobile Video Surveillance

For public safety departments, time is a valuable but scarce resource. And that’s problematic, especially since the number of threats in the world is rising steadily. The use of innovative technologies is essential for maintaining high safety levels.

Encrypted mobile live streaming has many applications. From special operations for live streaming from head cams while involved in police raids to tactical operational field duties including major security or terrorist breaches, covert operations, crowd control via public safety vehicles or temporary cameras on location, are just some examples of where Soliton’s products’ are utilised to live stream video back to a command and control centre. Cameras can be placed in a variety of locations including vehicles, head cams, drones, boats and helicopters.

The Zao and the Zao-s utilise H.265 HEVC for high reliability, multiple SIM cards, can support AES256 encryption and are ONVIF compliant meaning they can integrate into existing Video management Systems (VMS).

How the ZAO optimizes Police Surveillance

In order to make operational critical decisions based on video, what is required? Reliability, quality and ultra low latency. The police in London do not make a decision based on video alone, because in the past other live streaming units have had a latency of 3-4 seconds which is too long for a critical decision making. The Soliton Zao-X has a minimum latency of 35ms which allows decisions on video alone without a third party confirmation. Typically over 4G, the Zao-X can achieve 65ms latency glass-to-glass.

Soliton has a background in broadcast and broadcasters do not like dropped frames. They demand reliability and high quality even in the most challenging of situations. Soliton’s Zao-X can utilize up to 4 different SIM cards from 4 different cellular providers and will bond them all together as a single connection. In addition, it will then dynamically monitor the strength of each cellular network in real time and efficiently carve up the video down each cellular provider for increased reliability and performance. As an extra layer of security, the video stream can be AES256 encrypted. The Zao- X can fully integrate into existing VMS systems such as Milestone and Genetec. Emergency First Responders

What is Mobile Surveillance for Emergency First Responders?

Mobile Surveillance serves as an effective and powerful tool for emergency first responders in a crisis situation.

By having secure video streaming from the emergency scene, situations can be viewed in real-time by the heads of the department remotely in the command centre. In this way the public safety can be improved drastically. Getting drones up in the air in high-risk wild fire areas, helps to decrease helicopter costs and  - when equipped with thermal camera's - enables you to detect wild fires earlier.

The Future of Technology for Civil Emergency Services

When there is limited funding available for civil emergencies, this often means decreased efficiency and safety for the team. A solution could be found in using live-streaming drones. This cheap alternative to sending in a helicopter increases surveillance possibilities. Drones provide an increased periphery of vision in the sky with instantaneous broadcasting of footage to the control centre. Drone activity could cover many roles in outdoor events. From monitoring large environmental disasters such as flooding, through to finding or identifying pirates or refugee vessels.

Training Emergency Services Through Live Broadcasting

Continuous improvement and training are of paramount importance in the emergency services, where human error could result in fatalities. Mobile live broadcasting can give on-the-job training and support to both new recruits and on-going career development in the frontline of the emergency services. The live, encrypted broadcasting allows the remote trainer(s) to advise and provide training and guidance in the field. Curious how this can help first response and ambulance staff, security and police staff or firemen?

Trying to Beat Wild Fires with the Help of Drone Technology

Wild fires are pushing emergency services to the maximum of their capabilities. The ease at which a wild fire can start and then rage out-of-control with wind being a major factor, makes them difficult to contain and ultimately extinguish.  What can drone technology do to help? For example, live streaming from a drone provides an immediate real-time view of what is going on. Read the blog to find out how Roland Dangerfield of Sentinel Aviation supports an array of emergency services with their drone services.

Infrastructure

What is Mobile Surveillance and Infrastructure?

Fixed surveillance cameras have traditionally been a major factor in helping companies and government agencies in protecting vital infrastructure from crime and the threat of terrorist attacks.

However, by their own definition, they are limited in their utilisation just by the fact they are fixed. Mobile surveillance is the next generation of surveillance and is a great asset to complement existing fixed surveillance systems.  It helps companies protect property and people by live streaming from a camera that is mobile. For example, encrypted live streaming can be achieved from a body cam, from a drone or from a vehicle. They can be placed on public transport including buses and train to provide real time video feeds.  It allows security and law enforcement to see inside locations and to get cameras to where they are needed quickly and efficiently.

Secure live streaming from drones

With less human intervention in logistics, more computer intelligence is demanded, often from remote, central command. An economy of scale is required to make the investment in digital logistics possible. One-off deliveries won’t succeed in creating profitability. Therefore AI, encrypted broadcasting with minimal latency, remote guiding combined with accurate tracking on GPS, all help ensure a successful delivery.

In terms of mobile broadcasting, in order to create secure, remote logistics, prevent sabotage or stealing, the IT security needs to be augmented. In the case of drone delivery, we would recommend live video mobile broadcasting for each logistics operation, which would ensure that we can see where the packages are going.

Although many would initially be piloted and therefore requiring live stream, to ensure buildings, electricity wires and other obstacles are avoided. Even pre-programmed GPS drones would benefit from live streaming, to ensure the safe delivery of products.

The way Soliton has deployed the H265 hardware-based encoder results in at least 50% more efficiency in bandwidth usage compared to traditional solutions. For example: a 3 Mbps Soliton H265 stream provides the same video quality as a stream doing 6 Mbps in H264.

Drone delivery overcoming logistical challenges

Dominos pizza sent their first pizza delivery by drone in 2016. Soon after Amazon tried drone delivery. To get this far they have overcome many challenges, which were sceptically not thought possible. However, there are still challenges to face such as economies of scale and avoiding bumping into people and non-mapped obstacles (need real-time visual guides and sonar). The uptake of drones for private use, has pushed the governmental GPS mapping for the enforcement of avoiding flight routes. It has also developed the legal responsibility of risk of crashes and accidents.

Customers can easily ask their virtual assistant Alexa to order products with their Amazon Echo product. However, the actual logistics via traditional methods, provides a gap in their delivery which they wanted to plug. Amazon customers can use their Ring product to accept their home delivery remotely, or to speak to the delivery man and ask for it to be delivered by neighbours. They can also remotely unlock the door to let the delivery man in, via their remote opening smartlock (an Amazon product).

Improve Logistics through Better Mapping

As more and more people get mobile phones, the ability to register their GPS location and start using an actual address empowers them to start businesses and raise finance for their initiatives.  The project hopes that corporations will continue to sponsor the project, as they are able to improve logistics to these addresses. It is very important for emergency services for example to be able to find these addresses if childbirth is going wrong. As people get over their nervousness with registering, they can be incentivised for example with a free delivery of a home birthing kit.

Live streaming video from drones

What is live streaming video from drones?

Drones have become an essential tool for many of the emergency services including the police, law enforcement agencies and civil rescue services. The Zao-S and the Zao-SH from Soliton Systems have become a critical part of their drone operations. Connected to the grounds base station, the Zao-S and Zao-SH can be used to send an encrypted live stream over multiple 4G connections simultaneously back to a command and control centre with ultra low latency (0.04ms).

Emergency Services Surveillance with drones

Drones provide a logical cost efficient mobile live-streaming for emergency services. With drones you increase surveillance and indeed increase the periphery of vision in the sky with instantaneous broadcasting of footage to the control centre.

This drone activity could cover many roles in outdoor events from monitoring large environmental disasters such as flood control, through to finding or identifying pirates or refugee vessels.

Emergency services all can use drones with live streaming to optimize their work.

Trying to beat the recent wild fires with the help of drone technology

The ease at which a wild fire can start and then rage out-of-control with wind being a major factor, makes them difficult to contain and ultimately extinguish. By live streaming from a drone, we can get an immediate real-time view of what is going on” says Dangerfield. “We use the Soliton Zao-S technology to live stream reliably over multiple 4G connections which has a very low latency.

The Future of Logistics with Drones and Live Broadcasting

With the increase of Artificial Intelligence and mapping accuracy over recent years, more companies are seriously considering taking logistics to a new level of sophistication. With the reduced cost of high definition cameras, parcel deliveries can use HD cameras for each delivery. The 4G bonding system, ensures that live, encoded video transmissions would be distributed between multiple networks to the Milestone or HDView systems, This collectively adds another level of difficulty to an already complex system to hack.

Defence Industry

Safety measurement in Military

Soliton’s technology of mobile video transmitting can be used for determining danger at training and exercise field's, which is normally spread over a very big area such as a military airfield.

For example, BAT (Bird Alert Team) and FOD (Foreign Object Damage) are critical operations for flight safety, especially for trainee pilots.

Video can be streamed securely from a range of cameras either from the ground or from the air via drones, UAV or other aircraft including helicopters.  It can also be used at civilian airports with a similar concept. See action of ZAO-S in Seoul International Airshows (ADEX) 2019. ZAO-S can increase the mobility and therefore efficiency of the operation's by providing a real time video report to the command post.

Video Opportunities for the Military

Remote driving vehicles  - a driver or operator can be placed out of harm’s way but with the bi-directional capabilities of the Zao. Video can be streamed from the vehicle to the driver with ultra low latency in a location far away, and the driver is able to send the driving commands back to the vehicle via the serial interface of the Zao.

Snipers Telescopic Sights - Another military application of video streaming includes a sniper’s telescopic sight.  Video output via an HDMI port from the scope of a sniper’s gun can be live streamed from remote locations back to a command location many 100’s of kms away.

Receiving end - The Zao range of products can utilize AES256 encryption for the live video stream and are fully ONVIF compliant meaning it can be viewed by a variety of different Video Management Systems (VMS).
